Welcome to the State of the Stream where we share the latest streaming data around platforms, content creators, and related trends. The following report features narratives crafted by StreamElements based on data courtesy of our friends at Rainmaker.gg.

Twitch nears year-end with a peak in daily hours watched

While Twitch’s hours watched in November dipped due to being a shorter month than October, the daily hours watched took a small step up. It went from 57.2M to 57.5M, which is the highest it has been since Q2 (the measurement model changed in Q2 to channels with 2+ viewers, so we can’t compare with Q1 data that was measured differently).

No surprises in top 10 of the year

2023 may have had its share of monthly surprises, but the categories that rose to the top for the year overall were the usual suspects.

In November, Fortnite received a huge boost with the release of its new season, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III debut landed it on the charts, and Casino Jackpot entered the top 10 for the first time.

Only 9 new games debuted in the monthly top 10 on Twitch with Diablo IV dominating the pack in terms of hours watched. Hogwarts Legacy also had a strong showing.

KaiCenat is the most-watched streamer of the year

Gaules wore the crown for the top streamer in November but made runner-up for streamer of the year*. That distinction went to KaiCenat with 109M hours watched. In 2023, only one woman made the top 100, and it was ironmouse at #89 with 18M hours watched.

StreamElements co-founder Or Perry had this to say about 2023:

“Twitch is closing out 2023 on a high note with a daily hours watched peak compared to the last two quarters. Other highlights include KaiCenat breaking xQc’s 3-year streak as the most-watched streamer, ironmouse breaking Amouranth’s 2-year run as the top female streamer, and Diablo IV dominating the Twitch chart for new game debuts. The big takeaway is that as other platforms pursue top talent, you can never predict who will be the unofficial face of a brand.”
